Terms of Use
Last updated
Pantry is a recipe and meal-planning app for families. These are the rules for using it, in plain words. When you create an account, or tap "I agree", you agree to these Terms and to Pantry's Privacy Policy.
Who can have a login
- Pantry logins are for adults, 18 or older.
- Children don't have logins. A parent keeps a child's card — their name, allergies and diets — inside the family.
- Use "Invite to sign in" only for an adult in your family.
- Everyone with a login in your family can see and change your family's people, pantry, plans, recipes and sharing, and can delete the family. Invite only adults you trust with that, and keep your password to yourself.
Allergies: read every label
Pantry checks a recipe's ingredients, not the products you buy, and you must read every label.
- Pantry's allergy check reads the words of a recipe's ingredients. It can't see a brand's own ingredients, a "may contain" warning, cross-contact, or a product whose recipe has changed.
- Checking a barcode shows what a shared product database lists for that product, and that list can be wrong or out of date.
- Pantry can miss things, and it isn't medical advice. You decide what is safe for the people you feed.
What you share
- You keep ownership of your photos, recipes, captions and notes.
- You let Pantry use them. Sharing gives Pantry permission, without payment, to store, show, resize and share them in Pantry with the audience you chose: everyone, followers, or your family only. Shared recipes can also be shown in Pantry's shared cookbook and in What's for Dinner.
- The permission ends when you delete them, except for copies the law requires Pantry to keep. You can delete a post or a photo at any time, and everything at once by deleting your family — though the recipes you shared then stay with the families who saved, planned or cooked them, with no family name and none of your photos, unless you tick "Also remove the recipes we shared". To take a recipe out of sharing without deleting anything, switch on its Keep private.
- You promise you have the right to share them. You took the photo or have permission. You don't post photos of other people's children without their parent's okay.
Content rules
Share food and cooking. Nothing sexual, violent, hateful, illegal or harmful — especially anything involving children.
Reporting and removal
- Anyone can report a post, photo or recipe: write to ehrhard1982@gmail.com with a link to it and what is wrong.
- Pantry may remove anything that breaks these rules, and may suspend a login or a family that does.
- Pantry reports suspected child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, as US law requires (18 U.S.C. 2258A), and keeps what it reports for one year, as the law requires.
Copyright
If you believe something on Pantry copies your work without your permission, send a copyright notice to ehrhard1982@gmail.com. Include:
- your name, postal address, phone number and email;
- the work you own, or a link to it;
- a link to what you want taken down on Pantry;
- a statement that you believe in good faith that this use isn't allowed by you, your agent or the law;
- a statement that your notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you own the work or may act for its owner;
- your signature (typing your full name is enough).
Pantry takes down what a complete notice names and tells the family that shared it.
If you think something of yours was taken down by mistake, send a counter-notice to ehrhard1982@gmail.com. Include:
- your name, postal address, phone number and email;
- what was taken down and where it was on Pantry;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith it was taken down by mistake or because it was misidentified;
- a statement that you agree to the federal court for your address (or, outside the US, any court where Pantry can be found), and that you'll accept legal papers from the person who sent the notice;
- your signature.
Pantry sends your counter-notice to the person who sent the notice, and puts what was taken down back in 10 to 14 business days unless they tell Pantry they have gone to court.
Repeat infringers: a family whose shared photos or recipes are taken down for copyright three times is suspended from sharing.
Leaving Pantry
You can delete your login, or your whole family and everything it holds, at any time from Household settings. The Privacy Policy says what each one deletes.
Changes to these Terms
When Pantry makes a real change to these Terms, the date at the top changes, and you'll be asked to agree again before you go on.
